ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ volunteers supporting arrivals from Sudan

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ volunteers and staff are providing humanitarian support for people arriving from Sudan into the UK.

Emergency response volunteers have been deployed to Stansted Airport to help people who have been evacuated from the country following the outbreak of conflict.

Chris Davies, Head of Crisis Response at the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ said:

“People returning to the UK from Sudan have had their lives turned upside down, they need to be supported and to feel safe. Working closely with partners, ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ volunteers will be there to meet them as they arrive in the UK.

“They will provide practical and emotional support at this vital time. This could include cash-based assistance or something as simple as a cup of tea and someone to listen to them. We will continue to provide this support for as long as we are needed."

Notes to editors

Around 12 ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ volunteers and four staff members are supporting arrivals at Stanstead airport. They will be there for as long as they are needed.

The ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies.

We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.
